What Are Cosmetic Dental Treatments?
Included among our available cosmetic services are:
Sometimes, more extensive treatments are needed to help you regain the overall health and appeal of your smile. Known as a smile makeover or smile rehabilitation, the process uses digital technology to design a completely custom treatment plan that may include a variety of specific services depending on your needs.
Which Cosmetic Treatment is Right for Me?
Determining the best cosmetic treatment plan for your smile begins with an in-depth evaluation of your teeth, gums, and oral health. By using state-of-the-art dental technology like intraoral cameras and low radiation x-rays, our cosmetic dentist can recommend the right procedures that will most effectively improve the look, health, and function of your smile.
Customizing Treatment
During the treatment planning process, Dr. Panneton carefully considers all factors that impact your smile, along with your teeth and gums. This thorough evaluation includes documenting hair and eye color, skin tone, facial structures, the shape of your lips, and how they move when you speak and smile.
Analyzing your habits, lifestyle, and personality are also induced. No detail is overlooked; this way, we can provide you with a truly custom plan designed to help you achieve your very best smile.
Frequently Asked Questions
As a seasoned team of cosmetic dental care providers, naturally, we understand you’ll have questions about treatment. To better help you, below are a few of the most common questions asked during cosmetic dentistry consultations.
Q:
How much will treatment cost?
A:
Treatments considered entirely cosmetic may not be covered by insurance. Treatments that provide cosmetic benefits but are recommended for dental health reasons, like fillings and crowns, are often partially covered.
We do offer third-party financing through CareCredit. Our friendly and knowledgeable financial coordinators will be happy to help you either by phone or when you visit us for your first consultation.
Q:
How many appointments will I need?
A:
Some procedures take only a single visit while others may require several appointments at our office. For more details, please call us today!
Q:
How long will my results last?
A:
The longevity of your results depends on the treatment and how diligent you are with your at-home oral hygiene. Regularly brushed teeth tend to stay whiter, longer and flossing daily helps prevent further decay and damage. Visiting your dentist for routine appointments can also help extend the life of your beautiful smile.
Q:
Is sedation an option?
A:
While many cosmetic procedures don’t require sedation, we also understand that dental care of any kind can make individuals nervous. Upon request, Dr. Panneton offers both oral conscious and IV sedation.
Porcelain Crowns
A dental crown is used anytime a single tooth needs to be covered in order to protect its structure while preserving natural beauty and function. Crowns resemble the same look, feel, and function as natural teeth and are fabricated as such.
What Do Dental Crowns Fix?
In addition to the reliability of crowns, they’re also very versatile, meaning they can be used alone or in combination with other treatments to better preserve dental appeal, health, and function.
With crowns, we can:
- Improve the color and shape of teeth
- Strengthen and restore size to worn teeth
- Complete aesthetics with a dental implant
- Repair extensive chips, cracks, and fractures
- Protect treated teeth after root canal therapy
Our porcelain crowns are carefully placed to fit your tooth’s size, shape, and color, allowing for seamless blending with your smile. For cases of dental emergency, trauma, and reconstruction, we can also deliver fast yet reliable treatment with same-day, CEREC technology crowns.
Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are thin, yet durable porcelain shells that offer a comprehensive and painless way to conceal multiple aesthetic smile concerns at once. These tooth-shaped pieces are custom-crafted to fit over the surfaces of your teeth. Veneers can conceal just about any surface concern regarding teeth, including deep discoloration, chips, wear, and crooked or misshapen teeth.
Veneers can also make teeth appear straighter, but do not actually straighten them. If you have a smile that’s misaligned and affecting your bite, then orthodontics with Invisalign® clear braces might be a better option. The only way to know for sure is to schedule your consultation with our Omaha dentist.
What Can I Expect During the Veneers Process?
During your first appointment, we prep your teeth for future application. This involves lightly buffing the enamel surface, ensuring for a clean, smooth foundation. We then take digital impressions of your teeth which we send to our trusted dental lab for your veneer fabrication.
At the second appointment, we perform a light cleaning and polishing of the prepared teeth. Then we use a powerful, professional-grade adhesive to bond your veneers with your natural teeth, and a special light hardens the adhesive.
Once placed, veneers not only become part of your smile, they’re practically identical to the rest of your neighboring teeth. The results are beautiful, natural-looking teeth that have the shape and color you’ve always desired.
Professional Teeth Whitening
Enamel staining is perhaps the leading reason why people seek treatment with cosmetic dentistry. With professional teeth whitening, you can recapture the lost brilliance of your smile through our take-home and in-office whitening treatments each tailored to fit your desires and schedule. Years, even decades worth of discoloration can be lifted in the convenience of your own home or in the dental chair in as little time as 20 minutes depending on the type and level of staining.
For in-office whitening, we use the Sinsational Smile method. This FDA approved system combines LED technology in combination with professional-grade whitening gel to work at a safe, fast pace, resulting in a brighter, whiter smile in less time.
We administer at-home teeth whitening using the advanced methods of KöR and Opalescence™ Boost™. We start with taking impressions of your teeth which are used to make your custom whitening trays. At home, you’ll fill your trays with the specialty whitening gel and place the tray over your teeth.
What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
While there are many different reasons that cause teeth to become stained, five of the most common include:
- Dark foods and beverages (coffee, red wine, dark berries, tomatoes sauces)
- Tobacco use and smoking
- Certain medications or cancer treatments
- Dental trauma or injury
- Genetic conditions
White, Composite Fillings
Composite, white fillings are a great way to restore the natural appearance of teeth damaged by chips, cracks, or wear caused by clenching and grinding. We often use fillings to seal teeth once decayed enamel has been removed by our dentist.
During treatment, we’ll first choose the right shade of composite material that best matches your smile, helping compliment your skin tone and hair color as well.
Caring for Your Composite Filling
Composite fillings are reliable and long-lasting because they bond exceptionally well to natural enamel. With proper application, they can protect your teeth from future decay for many years.
To better ensure your treatment lasts as long as intended, keep up with proper oral hygiene to help keep your composite fillings looking and functioning their best.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are titanium posts that replace missing teeth completely, from root to crown. Once surgically placed in the jawbone by Dr. Panneton, implants fuse with living tissue and bone in a process called osseointegration. After several months of healing, the abutment, which is the attachment piece responsible for connecting your personalized restoration to your implant(s), is attached along with your restoration.
Your implant-restoration can be a crown, bridge, or denture depending on how many implants were placed and the number of teeth that were missing.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
Missing teeth affect more than just appearance, which may be more than enough to replace them. However, there are many reasons why tooth loss should be addressed properly, such as:
- Prevents remaining teeth from shifting toward the gap left by a missing tooth
- Restores comfort when chewing and speaking
- Encourages proper digestion
- Maintains proper bite positions
- Stops further tooth wear caused by an uneven bite
Without the replacement of even one tooth, your jawbone begins to shrink and deteriorate due to lack of stimulation from tooth roots. This weakening can affect the shape of your face, creating a shrunken, prematurely-aged appearance. Dental implants prevent this from occurring because they also help stimulate bone.
Can Anyone Get Dental Implants?
Not everyone is a good match for dental implants. To ensure successful treatment along with the stabilization of your implants, you must have enough healthy jawbone volume. It’s also important that you’re in good oral and overall health to promote proper healing.
