Sedation Dentistry

Find Dental Anxiety Relief with Sedation Dentistry in Omaha

Anxiety and fear shouldn’t keep you from optimal dental health and confidence. Sedation dentistry allows you to sleep through your appointment, ensuring you have a stress-free, restful experience.

Why is it Important to Attend Routine Dental Exams?

If the thought of seeing your dentist every six months sends you into a panic, you’re not alone. Approximately thirty percent of the U.S. population avoids the dentist due to fear or anxiety. Yet, without routine dental cleanings, plaque buildup can lead to instances of tooth decay and gum disease. During a dental exam, your dentist will clean stubborn plaque from teeth, preventing these health concerns. Not only that, but when you go in for your regular dental cleanings,  your dentist will also check for certain medical conditions that can be detected in the mouth, like diabetes, hypertension, oral cancers, and heart disease.

How Can Sedation Dentistry Help?

During a sedation dentistry appointment, your dentist will use medication to help you relax or sleep during your procedure. There are several sedation options available, including oral sedation and IV sedation, and your dentist will help you choose the one that is right for you. Not only will sedation dentistry relax you, but it can also help prevent unnecessary pain from muscle tension that is often caused by clenching muscles when one is anxious.

Our Sedation Dentistry Methods

Oral Sedation

Based on individual needs, our protocols for each patient are different. Before your appointment, you will be given oral sedatives that will help you relax during your appointment. You are partially awake and able to communicate, however, you will be relaxed and carefree. Often times, patients have no memory of the procedure. You will need someone to provide transportation to and from your appointment and you will be unable to drive for 24 hours.

Oral sedation offers a level of sedation perfect for patients who have had a bad dental experience, have trouble keeping their mouth open for a long period of time, or who have claustrophobic issues with dentistry.

IV Sedation

This is a great option for patients requiring longer procedures or patients who are fearful of dentistry. All of our IV Sedation cases are administered and controlled by a licensed nurse anesthetist. Before your procedure, an IV is gently placed and you are given medication that works quickly. You are asleep during the procedure, and afterwards, you'll wake quickly with no memory of the procedure. Different medications are used based on the length of the procedure and your personal medical history. All cases are customized for each patient. You will need someone to provide transportation to and from your appointment and you will be unable to drive for 24 hours.
