What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth. The aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable plastic that won’t irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces. Invisalign aligners are custom-made for your teeth and gradually shift them into place over time. Even better, you can easily remove your Invisalign aligners when eating and drinking as long as you keep your aligners in for at least 20 to 22 hours a day.

The Invisalign Treatment Process
Initial Consultation
Your Invisalign treatment starts with a consultation with one of our dentists at our offices in Omaha or La Vista. During this visit, we’ll discuss your smile goals, evaluate your orthodontic condition, and answer any questions you may have. We’ll also take high-quality impressions of your teeth and send them to a laboratory where your custom trays will be made.
Aligner Wear
Invisalign straightens your teeth through a series of custom aligner trays that’ll be swapped out about once every two weeks. To achieve your desired results, wear your aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours each day, only removing them to eat or drink. Each set of aligners is specially designed to only influence a certain set of teeth, gently shifting them into the proper position.
Smile Proudly
Invisalign treatment can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months to complete, depending on your orthodontic condition. However, it’s common to start seeing steady results within the first few weeks. Our dentists will closely monitor your progress and make any adjustments as needed. Once treatment is complete, you can start enjoying all the wonderful benefits of Invisalign and enjoy a beautiful, healthy smile.
Invisalign Care
There are several steps you should take when caring for your Invisalign clear aligners, including:
- Trade out your aligners once every two weeks. This allows your smile to continue shifting into the proper alignment.
- Rinse your aligners every time you remove them from your mouth. This helps your aligners to remain clean and clear of bacteria and food debris.
- Soak your aligners in Invisalign cleaning crystals. These soaking solutions are specifically designed to remove these bacteria and other particles from your aligners, leaving them fresh and clean.
- Always clean your teeth regularly. This means brushing twice a day and flossing daily to help reduce your risk of developing cavities and help stop the spread of bacteria into your aligners.
- Brush your aligners whenever you take them out. While this isn’t always possible, try your best and use a soft-bristled brush to prevent scratching the trays.
- Remove your aligners to eat and drink (water is the only exception). Food and drinks can stain your aligners and set back your treatment.
Frequently Asked Question
Invisalign aligners are painless and a discreet way to straighten your teeth. You may experience some mild discomfort in the first few weeks, but any pain and soreness will soon fade as your teeth get used to the aligner trays. Invisalign is much less painful compared to traditional metal braces because it doesn’t use metal wires or brackets that can poke your mouth.
If you’ve had braces but aren’t satisfied with the work, you may qualify for Invisalign. Invisalign can fix remaining misalignment issues following your braces treatment. You may also qualify for combined treatment if you’re currently going through braces treatment. Your dentist or orthodontist will determine your eligibility based on your dental needs.
No, there are no diet changes with Invisalign as they’re removable! With traditional braces, you can’t eat crunchy, hard, and tough food. But with Invisalign, you can simply remove your aligner tray to eat and drink whatever you want.
However, we highly recommend rinsing your mouth after every meal before putting your aligner back. This is to ensure no trapped food particles in your mouth could get stuck in the aligner.
Your dentist or orthodontist will schedule periodic check-ins to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. This typically occurs every six to eight weeks, but your provider may recommend visiting more often depending on your oral health needs.
