What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin, transparent shells of ceramic that are bonded directly to the front surfaces of your teeth for an incomparable appearance. We custom-create each patient’s veneers to the exact shade and shape they desire, giving them a flawless smile.
They’re an ideal cosmetic choice for improving your smile by covering any number of minor cosmetic imperfections. Veneers are durable and can last many years, but as with most dental restorations, porcelain veneers aren’t permanent and may need replacement later on.
Reasons for Porcelain Veneers
At Panneton Dental Group, we can use porcelain veneers to fix the following dental issues:
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Discolored, stained, or yellowed teeth
- Crooked or misshapen teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Teeth that are too small or large
- Worn-down teeth
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are often a patient favorite as they provide unique benefits, including:
- Completed in as little as two appointments
- Personalized to your unique smile
- Fast, simple, and non-invasive procedure
- Can last up to 15 years with proper care
- Stain-resistant and low maintenance
Our Veneers Treatment Process
To achieve your flawless new smile, you’ll visit our dental practice in Omaha or La Vista to receive your customized porcelain veneers. Your treatment will consist of two separate appointments and several easy steps:
Your Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation, we’ll explain the veneer’s process to ensure that you play an active role on your journey to a new smile. We’ll gently buff your teeth and remove a small amount of enamel to ensure your veneers fit perfectly. One of our exceptional dentists will take detailed impressions of your teeth and send them to the laboratory to create your veneers.
Placing Your Veneers
When your veneers are ready, usually in one to two weeks, you’ll return to our dental office. We’ll bond your customized veneers directly on your teeth by applying a dental resin activated by a special light.
Your dentist will double-check that your veneers look, feel, and fit perfectly before solidifying the bond. From there, you’ll be ready to show off your flawless smile with radiating confidence.
Caring for Your Veneers
Porcelain veneers can last up to 15 years or more with good oral hygiene and proper care. Luckily, maintaining your cosmetic restoration is as easy as caring for your natural teeth. Brush twice a day with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss daily, and rinse with an antibacterial mouthwash.
We recommend avoiding certain foods and beverages that stain teeth, such as red wine, berries, tea, and coffee. Hard foods like nuts or candy can also hurt the integrity of your veneers.
It’s also important to visit our practice for regular dental checkups at least twice a year or biannually. We’ll thoroughly clean your teeth, examine your veneers, and prevent the progression of any oral problems.
Frequently Asked Questions
The porcelain veneer process isn’t painful since we’re attaching the veneers to your teeth. The process is minimally invasive and completely non-surgical. Dr. Panneton will numb the area with a local anesthetic before the procedure. He’ll gently remove the necessary amount of enamel to make space for your veneers before placing the veneers and hardening them with a special light. Our staff will be right with you during the procedure to ensure you’re comfortable and relaxed.
Unlike your natural teeth, your veneers are stain-free. This means eating staining foods and drinks will make your smile look inconsistent. To ensure your smile looks natural, avoid eating and drinking these:
- Coffee and tea
- Fruit juices and soda
- Red wine
- Tomato-based sauces
While most insurance companies don’t cover cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers, your plan may cover a portion of the cost. We encourage you to speak with your insurance provider to learn more about your coverage plan and the benefits they offer. We have flexible financing options so you can get your brand new smile without delay.
