Heartland of America Park
The Heartland of America Park at The RiverFront is a great place to walk, run, or bike. This park offers an escape from the busy streets of downtown Omaha with plenty of walking paths and a lake. Click for more.

1. The Lake
The park’s centerpiece is the gorgeous lake with a stunning fountain. It blasts jets of water up to 300 feet into the air and puts on an amazing light show at night. It’s also home to a tour boat and rides during the summer and resident ducks and swans.
The area features a large lawn space, an amphitheater for shows and concerts, a Skate Ribbon for rollerblading in the winter ice skating in the warmer months, Farnam Pier, and more. There’s even a small playground, though not one compared to those at Gene Leahy Mall and Lewis & Clark Landing, which just reopened this year.
2. The Fountain
In the center of the park is a lake with a beautiful fountain and a great walking path that encircles the whole area. It’s a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Omaha.
A large modern computerized fountain shoots water 300 feet into the air and features a light show at nighttime. The fountain is a must-see attraction when visiting the Riverfront.
The Riverfront Front project has transformed 72 acres of downtown into a unified place for locals and visitors alike. Between the reopening of Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park, and Lewis and Clark Landing you’ll find plenty of things to see and do.
3. The Amphitheater
The Heartland of America Park is the largest of The Riverfront’s three sections. While many of its longtime favorite features like the lake and fountain that welcome visitors from Iowa into Nebraska will remain, there are new things to discover here. These include a Skate Ribbon that accommodates ice skating in the winter and rollerblading in warmer months, a bocce court, a lakeside amphitheater, and a Farnam Pier that is sure to become an Omaha icon.
The area is home to a few restaurants, including the popular Fig restaurant and food trucks that offer everything from burgers to pizza. You can also find a variety of dining options a few blocks northwest of the park in the Old Market area. Here is another spot to visit.
4. The Skate Ribbon
A new addition to Omaha’s downtown park system brings people closer to a vision city leaders imagined more than a half-century ago. The opening of Heartland of America Park marks the final piece to complete The RiverFront, a series of three parks near the Missouri River in downtown Omaha.
Central junior Callahan Hernandez was among those to test their skills on the skate ribbon, which will offer roller skating in the summer and ice skating in the winter. He says it’s the kind of place where laughter echoes and memories are crafted with every glide and spin.
The new park offers a variety of things to do and is close to other attractions like the Kiewit Luminarium, Gene Leahy Mall, and Lewis and Clark Landing. Food trucks and restaurants are nearby as well.
5. The Farnam Pier
The pier is a beautiful addition to the park. You can roller skate or ice skate here in the winter, and there are benches to sit and enjoy the view.
The new pier brings the RiverFront closer to a vision city planners dreamed of a half-century ago. It’s a wonderful spot to stroll, watch the sunset over the Missouri River, and look ahead to what downtown Omaha will become.
The pier is a short walk from the Orpheum Theater and Holland Performing Arts Center. You can catch amazing plays and musicals here, as well as touring symphonies and orchestras. And the kids will love the Omaha Children’s Museum!
6. The Restrooms
The restrooms at Heartland of America Park are a little tricky to find but well worth the trek. They’re located near the Wind Sculpture, which is an architectural landmark for the area.
They’re also just north of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, which connects downtown Omaha to Iowa City. The bridge is a stunning sight for tourists, and locals love to take pictures with it.
